Conway Twitty Essentials

Conway Twitty came into the scene as a rock 'n' roll teen idol, cutting the classic weeper ""It's Only Make Believe"" in 1957. After a few lean years he teamed with legendary country producer Owen Bradley in 1965 and began a new career that would produce an amazing 55 No. 1 country hits (a record that stood until George Strait broke it in 2006). Twitty was known for his baritone growl and soaring upper register, and his ability to write about romance in grown-up, sometimes risqué terms. He also proved a solid duet partner, most often with Loretta Lynn. He died in 1993 at age 59.
