Raised in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan, Israeli songwriter Dennis Lloyd spent a year at age 22 marinating in a remote corner of Thailand to find his musical voice—a swelteringly sexy hybrid of pop, hip-hop and rock. Back home, he was broke and working at a falafel shop when his breakout 2016 hit “Nevermind (Alright)” sparked a rush of worldwide passion, rising on European and American radio charts. The aching croons, looping grooves and jazzy trumpet of jams like “Snow White” and “Never Go Back” emphasise feelings of raw yearning, while his lyrics show a balladeer torn between breaking away from his love or doubling down at all costs.
