Whether spinning as a DJ, producer, label owner or and radio host, Kid Fonque (born Allan Nicoll) has been one of South Africa’s musical masterminds for more than twenty years. That multi-faceted nature is underscored by his boundary-agnostic talent, as he explores everything from broken beat and Bossa Nova to hip-hop and all shades of house. It’s also driven him to create a legacy of nurturing new generations of artists—by managing labels, including co-founding his own label, Stay True Sounds, or through collaborations with artists like Nia Andrews (“What I Do”), Toshi (“Sarhalel”) and Sio (“In Love”). His 2021 collab album with the UK’s Jonny Miller, ‘Connected’, is particular highlight, blending South African vocals with a cross-section of underground UK soundscapes.
