Based on the band’s deadly ‘70s threads and their sweet, Eagles-esque melodies, you’d be forgiven for thinking Midland were from an era long before the 2010s. But the Texas boys mix the country-rock sounds of old with 21st-century production. The result is something truly timeless, and the band have made their share of additions to the canon of country songs about vice (the woozy “Drinkin’ Problem”), heartbreak (“Cheatin’ Songs”) and making noise (“Playboys”). The band’s easy twang resonates across generations, with legends Brooks & Dunn tapping them to update “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”.
