Minimal

Minimal

Rooted in stripped-down synths and drum machines, house and techno have minimalism encoded in their DNA. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, adventurous producers leaned into that less-is-more aesthetic, yielding a pared-back style that dominated underground clubs and after-parties for a decade. As other sub-genres have risen and fallen, minimal has kept burbling along, folding deep-house warmth and experimental sound design into enveloping atmospheres, rippling grooves and gently psychedelic moods—vibes for days, in other words.
