Dutch keyboardist and conductor Ton Koopman has dedicated his career to the performance and preservation of Baroque music on period instruments, meticulously researching the composers he interprets. A peerless soloist on harpsichord and organ, Koopman also founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1979, followed by the Amsterdam Baroque Choir in 1992. His finely tuned sensibility is evident in decorative readings of Bach and shines through his recordings of the composer's entire body of cantatas. But his insight is equally keen when he brings the works of Bach’s predecessor Dietrich Buxtehude alive for modern audiences.
