True to his OG moniker, Miky Woodz went from being one of the pioneers of Latin trap to one of its most principled protectors. While more than a few of his peers subsequently slid into poppier spaces, he’s been holding it down for the culture with authenticity and integrity. Peppered with skits, BUILT DIFFERENT largely focuses on the hip-hop side of things, allowing the Puerto Rican rapper to spit freely. The opening track lays out his modus operandi, proudly stating how he operates in the shadows unlike rappers who stunt online for social media clout. “APRETAR” shakes the room with ominous bass as he counts blue hundreds by the rack, while “HOW MANY” bursts with a distinctly West Coast energy as he boasts of his Teflon tenacity. When he does opt for a reggaetón rhythm, he maintains a rugged sense of rhyming, as evidenced by “NO ME DAÑES EL MOOD” and the Ryan Castro team-up “PARCHAR”.
