Few could deny Grupo Marca Registrada’s música mexicana mastery, not the least of which being their powerful catalogue of corridos and norteño songs. Following the mid-2024 release of THE GOAT, the Culiacán-based ensemble helmed by bandleader Fidel Castro seeks to finish off the year with EVO. Opener “7x7” eschews outside involvement to exude gratitude and wonder in equal measure. From there, the album showcases a variety of acts alongside the main group, with intermittent returns to the core, like “BUGATTI CHIRON” and the sincere homage “Mi Viejo”. Among the artists assembled here are Jasson Arellano, Grupo Maximo Grado and Los Nuevos Ilegales, all of whom bring their respective gifts to their tracks. Junior H lends his sadboi aesthetic to “Clausurado”, while Diferente Nivel add some clarity and shine to the luxurious “BW”. Unafraid of playing with genre, they team up with Deorro for the thumping dance-pop hybrid “En El Audi”.
