About Woodkid

Woodkid, aka Yoann Lemoine, is a neo-folk musician who, as legend has it, decided to start making music when ’60s folk icon Richie Havens gifted him a ukulele during a video shoot. ∙ Lemoine has directed more than a dozen music videos, including Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die.” ∙ His first single as Woodkid was 2011’s “Iron”—which was sampled in Kendrick Lamar’s “The Spiteful Chant”—and the clip for the song won Best Music Video at Belgium’s Namur Film Festival. ∙ The Golden Age, his debut album, was a blockbuster hit, going Platinum in France and Gold in Germany and Switzerland, while earning two Grammy nominations. ∙ Lemoine was the creative director on the first 24-hour-long music video, Pharrell Williams’ 2014 hit “Happy.” ∙ In 2017, he was nominated for an Ariel Award (Mexico’s Oscars) for his score to the film Desierto. ∙ The music video for Woodkid’s “Goliath,” directed by Lemoine, was nominated for a 2021 Grammy Award.
