Baltimore dream-pop duo Beach House are masters of conjuring just the right atmosphere for their romantic, gently psychedelic songs. Victoria Legrand’s haunting voice and mesmeric keyboards play off Alex Scally’s shimmering guitars, and the result is indie-pop perfection. The pair have lent their crate-digging expertise to our indie-focused Untitled playlist, and the track selection is practically a Rosetta stone for decoding their many influences. “This genre name comes from record labels that were ‘independent’—as in not a major label. It is now used in many ways, and it seems that everyone has their own definition for indie,” Legrand and Scally tell Apple Music. “In that spirit, we chose songs we love from the early ’70s through the early ’90s. Though there are some ‘big names’ on the playlist, we chose these songs because they largely exist on the margins of the mainstream. Hope you enjoy.”
