Kanagawa Prefecture’s macaronienpitsu own a songbook full of quirky, colour-saturated rockers. After a trilogy of mini albums, 2017 debut full-length, Chosyoku, brought witty observations about everyday life to the fore. It boasted a touching pop sensibility, punctuated with playful keys and powerful guitar bursts. Lead vocalist Hattori crafts most of the band’s resonant melodies, incorporating influences as diverse as jazz, power pop and hard rock. The foursome’s second LP, 2020’s hope, underscored their whimsical message with delicious piano riffs and indelible choruses.
