British DJ Mark Hawkins pulls from a crate-full of influences on this debut album of subtle, funk-infused floor-fillers. Created and inspired by his new home in Berlin, Social Housing smoothly melds everything from melodic Chicago house (“Ode to a Broken Heart”) to percussive acid jazz (“Wake Up, Baby”) into one buttery groove. But it’s hard to top soulful Jocelyn Brown-assisted centrepiece “I’m So Glad”, which typifies the mood of lushly progressive nostalgia.
