Three years after quitting festival-owning EDM monoliths Swedish House Mafia, Steve Angello rolls out his debut solo album. And while he (wisely) hasn’t jettisoned the hedonistic spirit of his old band, there’s commendable ambition and earnest emotion coursing through Wild Youth. The title track and opener rolls out Angello’s solo mission statement: shore-crashing electro melodies and canyon-deep basslines elevated by pomped-up vocals. “Wasted Love” and the wistful “Stockholm Skies” will soundtrack post-summer break-ups, while “Tiger” and “Someone Else” remind us few dance producers know their way around a breakdown like Angello.
