About THE CARTERS
THE CARTERS, the musical duo composed of superstar husband-and-wife talents JAY-Z and Beyoncé, proves that every once in a while the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. When Beyoncé Knowles and Shawn Carter married in 2008, the former was already the Destiny's Child alum who became the queen of modern R&B and the latter was the superstar rapper turned business mogul. While the newly formed supercouple had collaborated in the past on songs like 2002’s “03’ Bonnie & Clyde”, 2003’s “Crazy In Love”, and 2006’s “Déjà Vu”, in 2014, they set out on their first co-headlining tour. The setlist for the Bonnie and Clyde-themed On the Run Tour showcased the scope of each of their respective catalogs. As the tour ended, real life set in, complete with rumours of marital discord. But in the wake of a truth-and-reconciliation process that resulted in both Beyoncé’s rage-filled Lemonade and Jay-Z’s philosophical 4:44, THE CARTERS set out to show the world they were once again a united front with the 2018 On the Run II tour. To further the point, they surprised fans mid-tour with the joint album EVERYTHING IS LOVE, a meditation on Black excellence. The first single, the Pharrell-produced “Apeshit”, made waves with its Quavo and Offset ad-libs and its sumptuous video shot in the Louvre Museum. On the album closer, “LOVEHAPPY”, Beyoncé declares, “We came and we saw and we conquered it all,” demonstrating that together THE CARTERS can rule the world.
