This alto saxophonist's pristine tone helped make experimental music sound intimate and inviting. His appearance alongside trumpeter Miles Davis on “Odjenar”, by Third Stream composer George Russell, created a moody modernism that flows with elegance. Decades later, Konitz's example guided melodic experimenters like pianist Fred Hersch, who joined the innovator in the late ‘80s on Round and Round.
