There are lots of reasons why this is one of the greatest live country albums ever. It was recorded when Jennings’ raw, barnstorming outlaw sound was a fresh revelation to country and rock fans alike. Then there’s the way pedal steel guitarist Ralph Mooney and drummer Richie Albright framed the band’s rugged-but-right-on feel. Most importantly, there’s Waylon himself, feeding off the crowd’s energy as his guts-and-gusto delivery drives the whole thing home on hard-charging mission statements like “I’m a Ramblin’ Man” and “Lonesome, On’ry and Mean”. It’s the sound of an outlaw unleashed.
