Scotland's Frightened Rabbit blur the line between solo project and band. Though their ranks at times swelled to as many as five musicians, the group's tender balance of pensive indie folk and effusive alt-rock ultimately existed as an outlet for the emotional complexities of founder Scott Hutchison. The poetic singer/songwriter poured every ounce of his soul into his tunes. Sometimes the result was ballads all nervous and achingly withdrawn; other times, it was stirring, soaring rockers.
