Colin Currie & Steve Reich Live at Fondation Louis Vuitton

Percussionist Colin Currie is one of the finest exponents of Steve Reich’s work, proving his instinct for the minimalist composer’s music in 2018 with brilliant recordings of Pulse and Drumming. That same year, Reich invited Currie to Paris to collaborate in a festival of his music. It’s the highlights from those concerts that we get to savour here, including a pin-sharp performance of the rhythmic tour de force Music for Pieces of Wood, the hypnotic Mallet Quartet (a return to the swirling Pulse) and Proverb, with its nods to 11th-century polyphony. But Reich and Currie's performance of Clapping Music provides, perhaps, the album’s most joyous moment.
