A key songwriter on Marc Anthony’s heralded and award-winning 2022 album Pa’lla Voy, Lenier generally operates within the tropical realm. Yet unlike most artists in his particular genre category, the Cuban-born singer often collaborates with those who put reggaetón or dembow at the fore, not the least of which being Farruko and El Alfa. For Blanco Y Negro, his first full-length project under Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records, he continues this self-driven trend with a pan-Latin selection of vocal partners. From the start, he demonstrates camaraderie with Gente De Zona, uniting their respective strengths for the pop-wise and anthemic “La Diferente”. From there, he branches out with Puerto Rican rapper Brray, Colombian reggaetonero Reykon and fellow Cuban singer-songwriter Diana Fuentes, to name a few. Naturally, working with such a diverse group gives his album a hybridised vibe, evident on “Loquera” with El Cherry Scom and the Guaynaa team-up “Rompete”. He extends his range further on the corrido-inspired “Buenas”, no doubt a reflection of his somewhat recent recordings alongside Grupo Firme. Elsewhere, he reaffirms his love for salsa on tracks like “Quinceañera”.
