About Daníel Bjarnason

Daniel Bjarnason is one of Iceland's most prominent composers, earning performances in the U.S., Europe, and his home country. He also has a flourishing career as a conductor. He gained attention in 2003 for Solitudes, a concerto for grand piano and prepared piano with orchestra. His orchestral works found performances with such ensembles as the Britten Sinfonia and the Adelaide Symphony, and he has engaged in recurring collaborations with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. As a conductor, Bjarnason has led such ensembles as the BBC Philharmonic and the NDR Elbphilharmonie. He has collaborated with artists outside the classical music world, including Ben Frost and Sigur Rós. Bjarnason has written works in a variety of media. His music has been issued in traditional classical recording formats, but he is best known for his solo albums, which began with Processions (2010). He returned with Recurrence (2017), Concurrence (2019), and Occurrence (2021).
