Helen Field

Soprano Helen Field is a beloved and versatile figure who has sung roles in opera ranging from Mozart to music of the present day. Field was accepted as a company member at the Welsh National Opera and made her debut there as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto. She has continued to appear there frequently. An early digital recording by Field came in 1989, featuring Charles Mackerras conducting the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in Martinů's The Greek Passion. The title role in Strauss' Salome is a Field specialty. She has sung in world premiere productions of Michael Tippett's New Year and Harrison Birtwistle's The Second Mrs. Kong, among others. Field has appeared on some 20 operatic recordings, and her live 1997 recording of Havergal Brian's opera The Cenci was reissued in 2024.
