When a catalogue is as heavy on symphonies by Bruckner and Mahler as this one, you know you won't want for late-Romantic orchestral bombast. But this Dutch conductor, who died 21 October 2021 after a lengthy career, also had a flair for the operas of Mozart. He wasn't the kind of maestro who got swept away with his own interpretations; there was always a sure-footedness to a Haitink-led performance.
