

Minimalist but also prone to sweeping symphonic touches with swathes of electronics, Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson's work isn't always easy to describe—other than to say that it's undeniably beautiful. Earning immediate critical acclaim with 2002's Englabörn, Jóhannsson quickly found a natural home for his ambient, emotionally rich compositions on the big screen, composing soundtracks for a slew of feature films (notably The Theory of Everything and Prisoners) and domestic stage productions.
