Pianist Atsushi Kiyota and drummer Akira Kawasaki formed mouse on the keys in 2007, then welcomed Daisuke Niitome (keys, trumpet) to the fold for their 2009 debut An Anxious Object—a head rush of intricate piano runs, emphatic percussion and knotty arrangements. Subsequent releases found them incorporating jazz and modern classical into their cerebral post-rock mix. 2018's Tres is driven by collaborations: Irish vocal group M'ANAM and neo-soul artist Dominique Fils-Aime bolster the trio's strange beauty.
