At a time when pop music was getting bluesier, Sammy Fain remained a traditionalist with an ear for melody. He got his start in the ‘20s, but Fain's sentimental ballads wouldn't become standards until the ‘40s when they were embraced by jazz singers and pop crooners. Even as traditional pop gave way to rock ‘n' roll, his standards remained revered by modern performers well into the 21st century.
