“This feels like it’s maybe a baby step up from the music I’ve had out,” Gracie Abrams tells Apple Music. “The production is elevated, but still minimal. I’m just lucky to be making music in a time where people are open to so many possibilities sonically.” A peek into her private diary pages, “21” is a wistful snapshot of the past, detailing the hollowed remnants of a bond once whole. Opening out tender and pained, the LA singer-songwriter’s vocal grows in resilience on a bed of hopeful keys. “I love that I can listen to my work and hear my own process emotionally,” she says. “I can go back to exact times I felt one thing that I don’t feel anymore. ‘Closure’ is the perfect word for it.”
