Australia produces alt-country’s next great talent. Blue Mountains maybe one of folk and country’s more emergent outposts but Julia Jacklin arrives from the New South Wales region with an impressively world weary and fully formed debut. With gently scraping, buzzing guitars, her Americana delivers poignancy (“Pool Party”), understated wit (“Small Talk”) and often a finely measured mixture of the two (“Don’t Let The Kids Win”). Emotionally incisive vocals and a majestic command of melody are ever present.
