About Thomas Strønen

Norwegian Thomas Strønen is a prolific drummer, composer, arranger, improviser, producer, and bandleader. He has participated in or self-created some 70 albums on his own and in cooperation with a wide variety of talent, including the bands Food, Humcrush, and Parish, Mat Eilertsen's trio and his own Time Is a Blind Guide. A circular drummer who plays both acoustic and electronic music, he has record deals with Rune Grammofon and ECM. His most celebrated recordings are 2004's Humcrush, 2006's Parish (2006), and six albums by the Food collective (with Christian Fennesz, Arve Henriksen, Eilertsen, and Iain Ballamy) from 2002 to 2015. In 2021 he issued Bayou with clarinetist Marthe Lea and pianist Ayumi Tanaka. After three years of intense touring and recording, he released Relations, which included duets with alternating pianists Craig Taborn and Jorge Rossy, Norwegian singer, kantele player, and folk musician Sinikka Langeland, and saxophonist Chris Potter.
