Antidote

North London’s finest, Louis Dunford soars into Antidote’s headline slot with new single “Superman” this week. The opening track from the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album Be Lucky (due on Valentine’s Day next year), it’s a yearning and anthemic tribute to the congregational joy and escapism of the rave. “I started writing the song over a decade ago, when I was very much a raver myself,” Dunford tells Apple Music. “It was cool to come back to it years later and see it as almost a window into what I was getting up to in those days. The inspiration for the lyrics came from the people and the feelings I was surrounded by and [I was] experiencing in those days. When it came to how to present the tune sonically, we tried make it match the narrative of a night out—starting quite stripped-down and subdued as the everyday nine-to-five of my life at that time comes to an end and then soaring into complete chaos by the end of the song, when the night is in full swing. We chose it to be the opening track of Be Lucky because it’s literally the biggest recording we have on the album. We really threw the kitchen sink at this one and thought it would be the ideal track to give the listener a kick up the arse as soon as they press play.” Elsewhere, you can hear essential new music from Chloe Slater and Greentea Peng. Like all the artists featured, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
