Dance music has never been more front and centre; it’s on the main stage at music festivals, all over the pop charts and booming through sweaty, strobe-lit clubs from London to Tokyo. This week, Eats Everything revives a classic for new single “Upside Down”, a shimmering house flip of Diana Ross’ sublime 1980 No. 1 of the same title. It’s a track the DJ/producer has held tightly within his sets on the circuit for many years—slowly growing its legend until recently receiving the blessing of the song’s original writers (including Chic’s Nile Rodgers) to unleash his creation. “The first time I played this was at The Warehouse Project [in Manchester] in 2021, and I love it because it works in hard or soft [sound] sets,” he tells Apple Music. “I play it all over the place now. It’s just one of those records that always boots off. The [Motown] sound stands the test of time for me because it’s great songwriting, brilliant vocals and amazing musical arrangement. Proper high-quality, well-thought-out music—and I’ve gone and stuck a kick drum under it. And it works!” Listen to “Upside Down” now and add danceXL to your library to stay up on the biggest floor-fillers from around the world, including tracks from Sammy Virji, James Hype and Sub Focus & Katy B.
