Alex O'Connor—the artist behind the name Rex Orange County—is a one-man music production factory. Equally at home playing scuffed sunshine indie rock (“Sunflower”) and jazzy lo-fi soul (“Edition”), he writes songs that have a timeless quality, with warm melodies and sharp lyrics floating over music that artfully nods to the sounds of old rhythm ‘n' blues records. “Boredom” places that weary sigh of a voice against Tyler, The Creator's hip-hop, while 2017's “Best Friend” is an emotive patchwork of Mellotron flutes, surf guitar and easy-listening brass.
