Sammy Davis, Jr.: Deep Cuts
Apple Music
Sammy Davis, Jr., could go serious when a song required it, and yet every corner of his catalogue leaves room for his joyous trademark humour. Some cases are obvious, like his tap-dancing routine during a live rendition of “How High the Moon” or his rubbery phrasing and cutting asides on the funny-bone ballad “Inka Dinka Doo”. But even a short live version of “Chicago” gets more spontaneous laughs than you'd expect.
