A precursor to the orchestral wind instruments we’re familiar with today, the recorder inspired a wealth of music in the pre-classical eras, thriving in the Baroque period with countless concertos written for it. Following a fall from fashion that lasted more than a century, the instrument has recently enjoyed a renewed surge in popularity, and contemporary composers have eagerly set about creating all manner of avant-garde works for recorders of all sizes, some with electroacoustic modifications.
