In Greensleeves: Folk Music of the British Isles, the esteemed and diverse Armonico Consort have produced a spectacular folk primer, one that contains refined and moving renditions of selections from Great Britain’s long and wonderful history of folk music. “Greensleeves”—one of Britain’s most well-known musical treasures—features gliding melodies and handsome counterpoint, both of which are highlighted by the Consort’s thoughtful, emotional performance. Gustav Holst’s “I Love My Love” receives a tender and pleasant performance that handles the work’s minor dissonances elegantly.
