Some eight decades since its formation, Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga exists as a proud institution within the música mexicana realm. Though its line-up has naturally changed through the years, its impact continues to be both substantial and meaningful. On Hecho En México…Mágico, the group’s current iteration continues fuelling its grand legacy with a dozen songs released just in time for Cinco de Mayo. Break-ups and heartache fuel tracks like “Al Ver Que Te Vas” and “Una Noche Me Embriague”. The profound poetry of “Los Vergelitos” comes through lyrically as well as musically, a phenomenon similarly conveyed on the morose “Cruz De Olvido”. Thankfully, the themes aren’t entirely so dark, with the confident corrido “Jefe De Jefes” and “México Mágico” breaking through in the best of ways.
