Icewear Vezzo’s Live From the 6 lands somewhere between a victory lap and the untold origin story from one of rap’s rising stars. Throughout the album, the Detroit MC alternates between stories about overcoming adversity and escaping the streets and the hard-won riches of his triumphs. On “Class of 2024”, he melds these two worlds together, rapping, “I’m the one that parked that big Rolls in the trenches/I’m the one that parked that gray Bentley on McNichols/I’m the one that parked that double-M on twenty-sixes.” Even as Icewear Vezzo earns national acclaim, he keeps his Detroit roots front and centre. On “Motion [Remix]”, the MC recruits his fellow Motor City spitter Babyface Ray. He makes references to 8 Mile and ’90s Crippin’, imbuing the track with touchstones for Detroiters of all generations. On Live From the 6, Icewear Vezzo shows how far he’s come while never forgetting the city that helped him get there.
