In 2022, SleazyWorld Go went viral with the now-signature “Sleazy Flow”. Having achieved chart success following a remix with Lil Baby, the Kansas City rapper rode that single’s momentum onto his Where the Shooters Be mixtape that same year, bringing high-profile guests like G Herbo and Offset along with him. Nearly two years later, his first proper album More Than a Shooter pushes his narrative arc further as he continues to hone both his voice and his craft from the trenches. Soundtracked largely by executive producer Turbo, a hitmaker chiefly known for working with Gunna, the roughly hour-long project benefits from the cohesiveness of its instrumentals as the Midwestern spitter speaks on serious matters of street business and the surrounding lifestyle. He goes hard here whenever possible, calculatingly cold on the ultra-violent “Who the Who’s” and dismissively confident on “3 Pack”. He scoffs at haters and opps on a macro level on “Drill Ain’t Dead”, a perfectly timed counterpoint to the commercial rise of the titular genre’s sample-meets-sexy variants. Features from like-minded artists Rob49 on “I Like That” and Lil Zay Osama on “SHHHH” enhance his world-building efforts, though Skilla Baby makes a strong impression on the sexually charged single “What You Need”. Whether cleverly likening himself to John Cena on the isolationist “Lesson Learned” or giving the tough talk a deserved rest on the seductive “Turks & Caicos”, he shows off the versatility he’s gained in the intervening years. Nowhere is that more clear than on “Depression 2”, a pain-rap catharsis that offers up a great deal of relatability.
