With this third instalment in their Pisteando Con La Regida series of well-curated cover songs, Southern California’s own Fuerza Regida continue their prolific run of records. Contrasting with the modern trapcorridos-driven 2020 predecessors Adicto and Otro Pedo, Otro Mundo, the project celebrates the regional Mexican musical tradition that they’ve firmly established themselves within. Opening with a take on the lovelorn madness of Banda Los Recoditos’ “Ando Bien Pedo”, the hour-long album progresses with spirited and sometimes gut-wrenching renditions of songs written or popularised by the likes of Los Invasores de Nuevo León, Los Cachorros de Juan Villarreal and El Fantasma, among others. Bringing El Coyote himself along for their take on “Árboles De La Barranca” makes for a perfect moment of mutual respect.
