b. Rosa María Coscolin, 1 November 1922, Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona, Spain, d. 4 December 2005, Cuernavaca, Mexico. Singing from childhood, Lasso attained considerable popularity in the 50s, working chiefly in France. Her records sold well, among them ‘Amour’, ‘Castagnettes Et Tango’, ‘Etranger Au Paradis’, ‘Padre’, ‘Buenas Noches Mi Amor’ and ‘Bon Voyage’. Overtaken in popularity by Dalida, Lasso moved to Mexico where she gained a new and enthusiastic following. She appeared on television, sometimes in performance and also in drama series. In 1985 Lasso returned to France for an appearance at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. She continued to perform into her eighties, making her last public appearance in the month before her death. Lasso was married six times and on her death was survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
