Kabza De Small x DJ Maphorisa

Formed circa 2019 by Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, the South African super-duo Scorpion Kings have been a key factor in amapiano’s mainstream recognition and popularity. “Amantombazana”, their breakout single, featured Samthing Soweto’s gentle vocals, which felt surprisingly at home over amapiano’s customary log drums and thumping bass. In addition to releasing a torrent of South African dance hits, the prolific partners worked together to help shape Samthing Soweto’s 2019 debut album Isiphithiphithi, whose amapiano-leaning songs provide the quintessential blueprint for placing vocals over amapiano production.
