About Rocío Dúrcal
Nicknamed Queen of the Rancheras, Rocío Dúrcal was a Spanish singer and actress whose career spanned more than four decades and 50 albums. ∙ In 1966, she won Best Female Star from the National Syndicate of Spectacle, Spain, for two films directed by Luis César Amadori: Acompáñame and Buenos días, condesita. ∙ Dúrcal was best-known for her takes on Juan Gabriel songs, but she also interpreted compositions from notable Mexican singer-songwriters Marco Antonio Solís and Joan Sebastian. ∙ Nominated for a Best Mexican-American Performance Grammy, her 1984 LP, Rocío Dúrcal - Canta a Juan Gabriel, was later inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall Of Fame. ∙ “La Guirnalda” appeared at No. 3 on Billboard’s first-ever Hot Latin 50 chart, which tracked Latin radio airplay, in 1986. ∙ Her 1988 single “Como Tu Mujer” topped Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks chart for 10 weeks. ∙ She was honored with a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
