With her soulful voice and fiery stage presence, Olga Tañón established herself as the leading female merengue artist of the ‘90s with her first three smash hit albums. On the heels of her success, however, she surprised fans in 1996 with a change in direction, releasing Nuevos Senderos a record of mostly pop ballads written and produced by Mexican superstar Marco Antonio Solis. Her new sound was striking but it was also well-received, broadening Tañón's fan base and setting a precedent for the singer to continue showcasing her versatility for years to come.
