In just under a decade, Young Jonn moved from being a burgeoning producer to staking a position at the cutting edge of Afropop with his breezy vocals, inventive storytelling, and immersive sonics. Starting out as an in-house producer at Olamide’s YBNL, he quickly moved through the ranks, placing records with superstars like Lil Kesh, Kizz Daniel, and Tiwa Savage. These alliances later saw him invited to contribute vocals on songs like “GEGETI” and “Let Them Know”, making his voice familiar while “Mafo”, a thumping year-ending collaboration with Naira Marley from 2019 wildly boosted his profile. A deal with Nigerian record label Chocolate City in 2022 definitively announced a new path for Young Jonn as a recording artist. The Ibadan-born artist swiftly followed up with his debut project, Love Is Not Enough, a delicate blend of smooth Afropop numbers and infectious R&B ballads contemplating romance and the currency of heartbreak. The EP spawned the heartfelt “Normally”, and the Afrohouse-flavoured “Dada”, which also gained a swashbuckling remix with Davido.
