About Sly Dunbar

One half of the pioneering reggae rhythm section, Sly & Robbie, Sly Dunbar began his recording career with Lee Perry, playing drums on "Night Doctor" in 1969. The following year, he played on Dave And Ansell Collins’ massive hit "Double Barrel." Around this time he struck up a friendship with bass player Robbie Shakespeare, and the pair formed the Revolutionaries, Channel One studio’s house band, playing on an astonishing succession of hits. Dunbar’s inventive and entertaining playing can be heard on a slew of reggae and dub classics and he released two solo albums, both in the late-'70s, SIMPLE SLY MAN and SLY WICKED AND SLICK. Around this time, Dunbar was the first drummer successfully to integrate synthesized drums into his kit.
