Sly & Robbie Essentials

Sometimes known as the Riddim Twins, drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare were the most prolific rhythm section in Jamaican music, with thousands of credits under their belt. Each cut his teeth as a session player, and they first worked together on a Jimmy Cliff album in 1975. After linking with Island Records' Chris Blackwell, they worked with a roll call of pop and reggae greats from Black Uhuru to Mick Jagger, even remixing Britney Spears. Expanding from live to programmed rhythms, they also created a slew of essential grooves for their own Taxi Productions. Shakespeare died in December 2021 at the age of 68.
