Tommy Dorsey Essentials

Tommy Dorsey got his start playing with brother Jimmy Dorsey in the early ‘30s. Originally known for his skills as a trombone player, Dorsey branched out to become a bandleader, forming several groups of his own. He and his orchestra found great success throughout the WWII era, often featuring a young Frank Sinatra on vocals. Post WWII, Dorsey re-teamed with his brother and focussed on music for TV, with songs appearing on Jackie Gleason's CBS show, and later their own variety show. Tommy Dorsey tragically died in 1956 at just 51, but remains one of the premiere bandleaders of his era.
