Floor 88

Surprise hit “Zalikha” made Malaysian pop band Floor 88 an overnight sensation. Naturally, they followed it up with a single that retains the same elements: inclusion of traditional instruments (gamelan, gambus) and lyrics centring on a titular female figure. But the sextet aren’t one to settle on a single working formula; they’ve mastered the delicate art of shaking things up while maintaining consistency. Frequent guest vocalist Baby Shima adds a feminine perspective to the band and they’ve sandwiched a ballad in between optimistic pop rock releases—keeping a cynical sense of humour throughout.
