Leading Frankfurt hip-hop duo Celo & Abdi serve up indelible gangsta odes to their city. The rappers—Celo is Bosnian while Abdi is Moroccan—were brought together by their flair for inventive narratives, a key ingredient of their 2012 debut Hinterhofjargon. Assisted by producers such as m3 and PzY, they rap over gritty samples drawn from the likes of iconic film maestro Ennio Morricone and soul maverick Bobby Womack. And by giving playful lessons in slang as well as exploring electro and Nordic folk, the unstoppable pair consistently turn Deutschrap on its head.
