Danish trio Efterklang link up with Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö for their new project, lacing breathy pop with pulsing complications. Liima’s debut album feels like the benevolent work of mad scientists, whether in the service of woozy crooning (“Russians”) or off-kilter dance-floor summons (“Roger Waters”). Lead single “Amerika” sums up the band’s odd marriage of frazzled synth and distorted beats with suave vocals and subtler rhythms. Even the smoothest tracks get roughened with ambushing twists, adding a rebellious edge to these lively pop experiments.
