About Nazareth

Scottish hard rock band Nazareth formed in 1968, taking their name from a lyric in The Band’s classic song “The Weight.” ∙ Nazareth’s 1973 album, Razamanaz, produced by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, was their international breakthrough, earning Platinum status in the UK. ∙ Their power-ballad cover of The Everly Brothers’ “Love Hurts,” released in 1975, peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the group their only Gold single. ∙ Produced by Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton, the Platinum-certified Hair of the Dog was the band’s most successful album, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard 200 in 1975. ∙ Guns N’ Roses hired Charlton to produce Appetite for Destruction, but he had to abandon the project after a few demos due to Nazareth obligations. ∙ In 1990, they sold out Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia’s largest indoor concert arena, with a record-setting ten dates. ∙ The group was voted No. 31 on Ranker’s 2019 list of The Best Hard Rock Bands/Artists, ahead of Bon Jovi and Kiss.
